Since 2014, illustrator Cédric Fernandez and scriptwriter Pierre-Roland Saint-Dizier have recounted the epic adventures of legendary French aviation company Latécoère – Aeropostale and its pioneers through the life and literary works of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in a series of graphic novels published by Éditions Glénat, in partnership with the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation.
Volume 1, called Saint-Exupéry, Le Seigneur des Sables (Saint-Exupéry, Knight of the Sands), is dedicated to the African period of Latécoère and the beginning of Saint-Exupéry’s writing career. The second volume, Saint-Exupéry, Le Royaume des Étoiles (Saint-Exupéry, The Kingdom of the Stars), evokes the final years of the life of the author of The Little Prince. Volume 3, which is scheduled to be released in October 2018, will cover the period of his life spent in Latin America with Aéropostale.
On the occasion of the 28th edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong Book Fair, which hosted around 700 exhibitors from 37 countries and regions from 19 to 25 July 2017 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Consulate-General of France in Hong Kong & Macau invited Cédric Fernandez, in collaboration with the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation, to present his works at the French Pavilion.
As part of this event, Cédric Fernandez also met with the French-speaking community in Hong Kong at the French bookstore Parenthèses, where he autographed his graphic novels for admirers of Saint-Exupéry.
A Cantonese version of The Little Prince, with illustrations by Michelle Chan and Aria Lui recreating the literary classic in their own personal way, was also presented at the Hong Kong Book Fair.
