At Sotheby’s Fine Timepieces auction held on 29th November 2015 in Hong Kong, a customised Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Edition “Le Petit Prince” from luxury Swiss watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen was sold for HKD 130,000. All proceeds from the sale benefitted IWC’s longstanding partner, the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation, which decided to support Ebenezer School, the one and only non-profit organisation in Hong Kong that provides education and training for the visually impaired in the city.
Olivier d’Agay, Delegate General of the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation, and Goris Verburg, Managing Director North East Asia of IWC Schaffhausen, presented to Remy Wong Kwan Bo, Principal of Ebenezer School, a cheque of the auction proceeds as well as the first-ever Little Prince tactile art book with drawings in relief and texts in English, French and Braille, published by blind artist Claude Garrandes with the support of the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation, during a press conference on 2nd December 2015 in Hong Kong.
Blind students from Ebenezer School were then invited to visit The Little Prince in the Dark exhibition by French artist Arnaud Nazare-Aga, which was created in collaboration with the Foundation with the support of Pacific Place shopping mall and IWC. It features 13 all-white sculptures in relief (to be discovered by the senses of touch and hearing) that are presented in two dark tunnels at Pacific Place.
“We are pleased to have the famous philosophical and poetic tale accessible to the visually impaired thanks to this meaningful exhibition created by artist Arnaud Nazare-Aga and his PAJ’Art Studio. All the magic, dreams and poetry of Saint-Exupery’s beloved book are thus revealed in a new way never imagined before. Visitors of this exciting exhibition can now immerse themselves in the dream world of The Little Prince and its planets by touching the sculptures while listening to an audio version of the book,” said Olivier d’Agay, great-nephew of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, during his visit in Hong Kong.
